Listening to the news can be a bit discouraging to say the least.  You need to be ready for whatever may come in the next few months.  I don't like to be a doomsday sayer but it's not looking good.  I keep hearing food that is expected to skyrocket.  Now is the time to store up.  We have some survival kits that everyone should have.  We got one for each of our kids and our friends have them as well.  Have a lantern for alternate light.  Get coleman fuel for your lanterns, stoves, etc.   Propane may not be available.  Store up at least 3 months of food.  As any good Boy Scout will tell you...be prepared.

We just got back from a great trip to California.  We stayed at Camp Richardson in beautiful Lake Tahoe for two nights.  We enjoyed one of their cabins with a gorgeous view of the Lake.  It was a little nippy this time of year but well worth the trip.  At least at this time of the year there's very little traffic and you can have your pick of cabins and RV sites.  There's also some great camping areas nearby.  We saw a raccoon family strolling through the camp.  They were very cute but we didn't get too close as they can be a bit onery.  The salmon were spawning while we were there and took the nice walk to actually see them through glass, under water.  It's always been one of our favorite places.  In the summer, tent camping is great.

From Tahoe we ventured on to Southern California and met up with our Oregon family.  We stayed in Newport Beach.  The weather was in the 80's the entire time we were there.  This is definitely the time to visit SoCal with few tourists and great weather.  We had the beach almost to ourselves.  Having been raised in the area, the early summer can be quite cold and foggy.  Mid October is perfect.  There are so many camping spots right on the beach.  During the peak summer months you're lucky to get anywhere close.  We're now back in Western Colorado waiting for our first snow this evening.  That's okay.  I love the four seasons and we don't get it too bad here on the western slope.  I did come home to a yard and patio covered with leaves which I put out for pickup.   It's just the beginning.  We usually have leaves falling for two months.  That's okay too.  It makes me get out and get some exercise.  Always a good thing.
